Data science training

Data Science Dojo (DSD) and University of New Mexico Continuing Education (UNMCE) have partnered to deliver a Data Science Certificate Program.

This partnership will allow Data Science Dojo to offer its top-rated curriculum now backed by an accredited university.

Located in Albuquerque, the University of New Mexico (UNM) was founded in 1889 as the “flagship institution” of New Mexico. With an active network of more than 160,000 alumni, 200+ degree options, and a campus covering nearly 800 acres today, UNM is living up to its founding vision.UNMCE offers courses for professional development, personal enrichment, and lifelong learning. Although most classes and training aren’t offered for academic credit, certifications are available upon request for some Business, Professional, and IT courses.

What does UNMCE mean for you?

The partnership between DSD and UNMCE will allow everyone to attend intensive, short-duration data science training with the stamp of approval from the University of New Mexico. The UNMCE data science certificate will only be offered at the Albequerque campus where you will be able to receive continuing education credit.

What’s the difference between certified and non-certified?

This Bootcamp will be treated exactly like all of DSD’s other top-rated boot camps. The only difference is the training hosted at UNMCE is backed by an accredited university. You will receive a certificate of achievement jointly offered by Data Science Dojo and the University of New Mexico.

About the Data Science Training in New Mexico

Scheduled for October 7-11, 2019, experienced data scientists from Data Science Dojo will help you build a strong foundation of theoretical concepts on data science and big data engineering while helping you apply them to challenging datasets. Check out the data science Bootcamp curriculum.

Benefits of the Data Science Certificate Program

This data science certificate program will help you gain multiple technical skills. Below is a list of what to expect at the Bootcamp:

  • Learn to use tools and technologies essential for data science and data engineering: R, Python, Azure ML, Hive, Hadoop, Mahout, Spark, Stream Processors, and Data Investors.
  • Participate in a Kaggle competition.
  • Explore, visualize, and narrate stories underlying in any given dataset.
  • Build predictive models for classification and regression.
  • Evaluate predictive models and identify suitable metrics for evaluating a given business case.
  • Build ensemble learning models such as Bagging, Boosting, and Random Forests.
  • Build a predictive model and deploy it as a web service.
  • Design, run, and interpret online experiments and A/B tests.
  • Identify homogenous groups in a given dataset using clustering.
  • Learn how to process and analyze textual data to find similarities between documents.
  • Learn how Amazon’s and Netflix’s recommender system algorithms work and build your movie recommender system.
  • Build an end-to-end internet of things (IoT) solution

Learn about two new short-term courses introduced by Data Science Dojo: A 3-day Introduction to Data Science and A 2-day Introduction to IoT.

Last July, Data Science Dojo (DSD) announced a new data science certificate program with the University of New Mexico Continuing Education (UNMCE). Continuing with this partnership, DSD has announced two new training stemming from the certificate programs: A Hands-on Introduction to Data Science and A Hands-on Introduction to Internet of Things (IoT).

A hands-on introduction to data science

Taking place March 11-13, 2020, at UNMCE, this new training will continue to offer the data science certificate. The main difference between the new and previous training is the new training will only be three days instead of five, and the days are a little shorter (days start at 9 am rather than 8 am). The course is made to give a strict fundamental knowledge of data science, taking away some of the stress of coupling data science training with data engineering.

The training is taught in a series of live, in-person, instructor-led tutorials to equip you with data science fundamentals, R programming, and Azure machine learning tools for data science. Anyone is welcome to attend, especially those who would like to add data science as a skill or who want to learn more about the field.

Below is a list of some of the topics that will be covered during the course. To see the full list, please view the full curriculum.

  • Introduction to Big Data, Data Science, and Predictive Analytics
  • Data Exploration, Visualization, and Feature Engineering
  • Introduction to Predictive Modeling, Classification, and Decision Trees
  • Evaluation of Classification Models
  • Deploying a model in Azure machine learning
  • Participation in a Kaggle competition

A hands-on introduction to the Internet of Things (IoT)

Scheduled for April 20-21, 2020, also at UNM, this introduction to IoT is 2 days of real-time analytics. The course is designed to give a gentle introduction to IoT. At the end of the second day, attendees will understand the architecture of an IoT application and build a working prototype of an IoT project.

The IoT prototype comes in 4 different tracks, meant to simulate some of the industries where the internet of things is most popular:

  • Agriculture – Real-time monitoring of humidity, temperature, and light from the soil
  • Transportation – Real-time tracking of an automobile location
  • Industrial Automation – Real-time monitoring of machine health
  • Surveillance – Real-time activity monitoring

The boot camp also includes lessons on social media (Twitter) sentiment analysis, simulated credit card data steam, and motion sensing data emitted by a smartphone. Additionally, each attendee will receive and keep an IoT Devkit to go through the hands-on exercises with.
